Last of the Mohoochers

Wednesday
4/28/2010

We heard on Monday that George and Jackie-O closed the deal during the visit by their prospective adopters last weekend – they're going home together! Woohoo!

Since the couple adopting them would prefer kittens that have already been spayed or neutered, and since Jackie-O now weighs enough to be eligible for spaying, I volunteered to drive Minnie, the Moochers, and any other nearby Homeward Trails kittens over to the low-cost spay-neuter clinic in Charles County, Maryland next week.

It will be a long day, but it's more efficient to get everyone taken care of before they leave the nest, since it means one less thing for their adopters to worry about. And spay/neuter prices vary wildly by clinic; adopters who don't know the options can easily spend hundreds of dollars getting a pair of kittens fixed.

So the spay/neuter on May 6 means that TJ will be with us another week – we'd been expecting to deliver her to her new home this weekend. We should be handing off George and Jackie-O the weekend of May 8-9 as well, which would leave Lincoln as the only Moocher remaining with Mom Minnie.

In some ways that's surprising, since if people met all the Moochers with their eyes closed, he's probably the kitten most people would choose. He's sleek and strong, easygoing, and happy to be held. We're pretty sure someone will recognize how great he is soon. Just like his Mom.
