So, can anyone remember the last time we had orphaned bottle babies? No, we couldn’t either! We had to look back in the archives to remember the Sluggers from fall of 2011.
We’ve bottle fed some of our kittens with moms since then, but that never involved the round-the-clock stuff with the alarm going off rudely at zero dark 30. These four little guys came up yesterday on a transport from Wetzel County, West Virginia. We know nothing about them except someone at the shelter took care of them until they could hitch a ride to us.
As you know, we choose litter themes based on what’s going on in the world...and although the days themselves didn’t align, this weekend it’s all about the Academy Awards tomorrow. So...meet the Oscars! It should be pretty easy to come up with some fun names, so let’s hear ‘em!
We have a male classic tuxie, a female gray tuxie, and two cow kitties: the one who’s mostly white is a boy and the other is a girl. They are both going to be medium-haired, while the two tuxies look to be short-haired.
So far, they have taken to the bottles like champs, and every feed has been good. We’re giving them antibiotics prophylactically because we’ve been burned in the past by little orphans who get really sick, really fast. We’re also giving them probiotics to help keep their GI systems healthy.
It’s been 23 hours in the toasty villa, and so far, so good. Although the 2:40 alarm was, well, alarming, it was great to know that a Saturday was ahead. The ugly one will be Monday morning. We may split the weekdays, so only one of us has to get up, especially if they continue to feed well.
As for now, I think it’s time for my nap!
