After an uneventful last few weeks, the Pi boys are suddenly in the home stretch. A potential adopter is visiting them on Saturday, and they’re scheduled for neutering on Monday. If the visit and surgery go well, they could be home a week from today.

They’re a bit younger and smaller than the kittens we typically adopt out, but we’re willing to let them go next week because they’ve been rock solid, health-wise. Newton and Yann are the first kittens we’ve fostered in over five years to not need a single dose of antibiotics or nutritional supplements.

They got big and strong the old-fashioned way – by nursing on a healthy mom-cat. As you can see from this photo, Raz still has a distended right upper lip, but her “rodent ulcer” looks pretty much the same as it did when she and the Pi boys arrived at 50K, two months ago today. So we’ll defer treating it until her kitten raising chores are over.

Which may not be next week, even if Newton and Yann do head home…

Because I just picked up four new bottle babies at the Homeward Trails office! They arrived at the shelter in Prince Georges County two days ago, spent one night with a shelter volunteer, last night with the HT cat coordinator, and are now toddling around the 50K bunkhouse.

Based on their weights today, I’d guess they’re 3-4 weeks old, and probably two weeks away from being self-sufficient feeders.

Luckily, they seem healthy and have good appetites. Together, the four of them drained most of a bottle as soon as I installed them in the bunkhouse.

So we need names, both for the litter as a group and for…

K1, a female gray tabby, the biggest of this posse.

K2, a female dilute tortie, the smallest.

K3, a super-model torbie reminiscent of Lolly and Posey.

And K4, a male tabby with torbie coloring.

So while Raz may have closed her dairy bar by the time her Pi boys go home, we’re hoping that she may be willing to serve as a surrogate mom for this furball foursome. Even without milk, she has a lot to offer on the maternal support front.
