Because the Odd Couple was healthy and ready to go, we transferred Cheeto and Felix back to their original foster family. Our job was just to get them over their virus and wait for the mom and kittens that we had committed to earlier.

Joyce and her Jewels arrived yesterday. They are six weeks old and SUPER cute – playful and funny. Her previous foster said that Joyce could be a little touchy; sometimes she wanted to be petted more and bugged you until you complied, but sometimes, if she reached her petting saturation point, she would let you know with a swat.

Hmm, my ex mother-in-law was also named Joyce, and she too was a little touchy. Anyway, we haven’t gotten a real read on Joyce yet. When the camera comes out, she tends to head under the futon. She’s no diva!

The Jewels came named already – only one name overlapping with our Gems litter. That’s Opal. With Ted’s database, that means that we need to spell Opal a little differently from the previous name, so we’re giving this Opel the German flair.

The four brown tabbies are all girls like their mom. Our one solid gray guy is Cole. The girls are a little challenging to tell apart. Opel has a little white on her nose, which makes her different from Pearl, who is her twin with socks and bib.

The two solid tabbies are more challenging, and we haven’t really figured out an easy determinant yet. Jade is heavier, but without the scale, we can’t tell them apart at this point.

All the kittens like being petted, but they are too busy to want to be held for long. They had been kept in a bathroom, so they are enjoying their new digs and climbing opportunities. They mastered the first level of the cat tree without a problem. They also love chasing each other up and down our carpeted ramp.

We’re looking forward to getting to know the Jewels better in the coming weeks.
