Normalizing

Monday
5/31/2010

Although we still get these fleeting feelings that we need to be doing something for sick kittens, we’ve enjoyed a few days of reduced stress and getting back to normal since we lost the last of Les Miz.

Having a long hot weekend means the occasional afternoon nap, which is Margo’s favorite time of the day! She gets short shrift on the 50K website in terms of attention, but she remains an important part of the household. When the sun comes up in the morning, she comes up and cuddles with me – licking my arm, then resting her head on my arm while she gets comfy. She is a couch potato at heart, but she does like the fleecy string and will roll around while I dangle it over her. She has such a good soul, our Marge.

Meanwhile this weekend we’ve tried to make up for lost time in the villa with Sam and the Reggae-Rats. The boys make us laugh every day with their antics. They’re getting so much more coordinated, although they still haven’t figured out how to scale the futon. They run in circles from one toy to the next, then up the post to the crates and back down the other side.

We were watching them play hide and seek in the crates, and Sly was in a crate on the second level. To get to Sly, Robbie realized that he couldn’t get there from the floor, but had to run to the rear of the crates to hop up and enter the crate from behind – pretty smart for a 6-week old kitten!

We’re pretty sure Samantha has turned the taps off, but unlike the Moochers, we never see the boys trying to sneak a maternal snack. They are most interested in playing with Sam’s tail, which they find fascinating. She doesn’t seem to mind too much. They’re all still eating well, and if they continue on the current trajectory, the Reggae-Rats should be ready to go home soon after they receive their next round of vaccinations.
