a shy orange tabby with gorgeous marble swirls on his sides, Ollie came to 50K as a 3-month-old singleton whose sister had been adopted from the Prince Georges County shelter. We integrated Ollie with mom-cat Angel, her six smaller tabby and tortie kittens, and their 4-month-old black kitten step-brother Jayden.

Angel and Jayden were friendly to Ollie from the start, and most of the other Lucky 13ers seemed indifferent to him, but it still took Ollie several days to feel confident enough to join the pack from meals and playtime. Instead he usually hid under the futon or in the covered nest. We were a bit concerned when he failed to gain weight for several days. But by the end of his first week, he was napping with tabbies and squeezing his way into a spot at the buffet. And he made up for lost time by eating like a wolf and gaining a pound in one week!

By the time he went home (on day 13), Ollie had lost most of his pot belly and wasn't hiding as much. We were thrilled that his adopters saw his potential and took him home along with Jayden, his best buddy from 50K.
