Hobie

Litter number: 7
Kitten number: 25
Gender: m
Color: orange tabby

Nickname: Hobie Cat
Siblings: unknown

Hobie came to us sick and alone, weighing only 5.4 oz. He was shuttled over to our shelter from a neighboring county, since their shelter couldn't care for a kitten his size. We knew he was in trouble right away when he produced yellowish diarrhea after every feeding.

We took him to the vet for help with his diarrhea, but he wasn't prescribed Metronidazole or Albon. We fed him by syringe every few hours, but whatever we gave him came back out as diarrhea or vomit. The deworming medications didn't help, and he only survived a week in our care. Our first fosterling lost.

Without siblings, Hobie seemed lonely, so we spent as much time with him as we could. Sick as he was, he tried to play with us and purred when we held him. We think about him now whenever we have a very sick kitten, and wonder if we could have saved him if we'd known as much then as we do now.
