JJ was the first kitten in her litter that we named, and it didn't take us long to do it. We named her after Janis Joplin, because within minutes after disembarking from the kitten-carrier into the 50K bunkhouse for the first time, she turned to me and issued the loudest yowl I'd ever heard from a 10-ounce kitten. She repeated her performance when Martha got home.
Though JJ proved to be a good-natured and not overly-demanding kitten (unlike you, Chrissy), she continued to remind us occasionally that she had big-cat pipes, and we always considered her a bit of a diva as a result. That may also have been due to her status as the only female in her litter.
During their stay at 50K, JJ and her almost-identical-looking brother Blue evolved from tangled little furballs prone to wearing morsels of food in their coats to healthy, groomed, and gorgeous medium-haired gray kittens. She and Blue were the only two of this five that we never saw vomit, and both seemed able to handle whatever games or obstacles they encountered on the 50K playground.
We're thrilled that JJ (along with Otter!) was adopted by a friend of ours in the DC area, so we'll be able to see her a few times per year. It will be fun to see if she remembers how to sing.
